An Open Letter to Our New Baseball Family
Updated: Jun 4, 2019
We could say buckle up, and that you are in for the ride of your life, but that would be an understatement! Baseball is an extremely hard, yet rewarding game/lifestyle. It can be both challenging and life changing at the same time.
Professional baseball is an intricate system, full of tiny details. Trying to figure out all of the aspects now, would blow your mind, don’t sweat it! You will learn as you go! You may even learn TOO MUCH. Trust us!
Don’t take it for granted:
Everyone drafted has a dream to play in the Big Leagues. Yet, Major League baseball has one of the most prestigious groups of men. Meaning, it’s hard, but you already know that! Not everyone will make it. But this is your chance of a lifetime! Beyond just the game, we want you to know that whether you make it big or you play your whole career in the minor leagues, that you can make a difference. You can be influential, and you can be the smile on a child’s face. Don’t take for granted what you can do with this new title that was bestowed upon you and the platform that comes with it.
We have to often remind ourselves what a privilege baseball is. Not many people are able to say they get paid to live out their dream. To do something they absolutely love! To get to be a kid at heart, day in and day out. It is easy to get caught up in the logistics of it all. Heck it is even easy to get bitter at times. However, remember it’s an HONOR to be apart of it all. Stay humble!
You are not promised anything in baseball. Going through the minor leagues, there will be so much uncertainty that it could make your head spin, if you let it! Don’t let time pass you by and forget to enjoy yourself along the way. After all, baseball doesn’t slow down for anyone! We have been in this profession since 2010. Make the most of every minute you have in this game!
Make new friends:
Honestly, baseball can seem like a revolving door at times. You will make a friend, and they could be gone tomorrow to a different team. Get to know them anyway! You will meet people from many walks of life. Some you will love, and some you wont be able to stand. Yet baseball, like a binding glue, will hold us all together. At the end of the day, don’t let a few bad apples spoil you from gaining some of the best friends you will ever have. We are sure glad we didn’t!
Lastly, Congratulations and welcome to the family! We hope your journey through baseball will be one to remember! Here is to many memories made, wild stories to tell, and an opportunity to really do some good! May you make the most of it!
A Seasoned Baseball Couple.
